1000 GUINEAS 1827

The 14th winner of the 1000 Guineas, held on Thursday 3rd May 1827 over the Ditch Mile, was Arab (8/1), a brown filly by Woful out of Zeal, owned by the 4th Duke of Grafton, who won by a head from the Duke's more fancied runner Monody. A field of 7 runners contested the race which was worth 1400 Guineas (Equivalent to £133,600 in 2017). Note that, although Robert Robson was the usual trainer of the horse, he suffered a prolonged illness and the horse was sent to Thomas Carter to be trained for the Guineas.
